Kpop Girl Groups Update May 2018

           It's time to update the blog again. Since It's the world cup time this month, so my blog is kinda  late than usual. But for May 2018, the girl group comeback is really interesting and around the same as April 2018, Especially some brand new groups debut.

(G)I-DLE - Latata

Ok, very first time the new group on top of my blog, but they deserve it.

(G)I-DLE is a 6 member kpop girl groups debut under Cube Entertainment.  They are Miyeon, Minnie, Soojin, Soyeon, Yuqi, and Shuhua. They debut on May 2, 2018.

G)I-DLE officially released their debut mini-album I Am on May 2 with the lead single "Latata".  They made their official debut stage on the music program Mnet's M Countdown on the next day.

(G)I-DLE achieved combined views of 2.2 million for the "Latata" music video within two days of its release. The mini-album debuted at number 13 on the Gaon Album Chart issued on April 29, 2018.I Am also debuted at number seven and has since peaked at number five on Billboard's World Albums chart on May 9, 2018. "Latata" debuted at number thirty-five on the Gaon Digital Chart on May 17, 2018. (G)I-DLE received their first-ever music show win on SBS MTV's The Show on May 22, twenty days after their debut. Two days later, on May 24, the group received their second music show win for "Latata" on Mnet's M Countdown and followed by their third win on The Show. After a month after debut, they made their debut on Billboard‘s Social 50 Chart by charting at number 36 on June 5.

In the end, because of (G)I-DLE's popularity, even YG Entertainment decided to delay BlackPink's comeback

Currently I am learning this dance as well, and I really like this dance.

AOA - Bingle Bangle

        

On April 18, 2018 FNC Entertainment confirmed that AOA would be returning as a group of six in May 2018. It was later confirmed in early May that the group would be returning with their fifth mini album titled Bingle Bangle on May 28, 2018. "Bingle Bangle" was released as the title track in conjunction with the EP on May 28, 2018. The song was described as "a funky summer song with fresh and lively energy"

 

Dreamcatcher - You and I 

On May 10, Dreamcatcher released their second mini album Escape the Era. This is the final part of their 'Nightmare' series. Their second mini-album has six tunes, including the lead single "You and I" and its instrumental counterpart.

Their second mini album Escape the ERA's Outside and Inside versions ranked numbers 1 and 3 respectively on Hanteo's album chart, and peaked at number 3 on Gaon and number 1 on China's Yinyuetai. It made its debut on the Billboard World Albums chart at No. 7.

Pristin V - Get It

Pristin V is a subgroup of the kpop girl group Pristin, formed by Pledis Entertainment in 2018. It is composed of five Pristin members: Nayoung, Roa, Eunwoo, Rena, and Kyulkyung. On May 17th, Pledis Entertainment released a teaser confirming that Pristin would be debuting its first sub-unit. Members were revealed through teasers titled "Find out the V". On May 28, their first single album was released, along with the music video of the leading track in the album, "Get It"

LOONA/yyxy - love4eva

I talked aobut Loona this group in my previous article, so I won't repeat here.

The unit's Korean name is pronounced Idfrom the Sino-Korean root meaning "Girl of the Month", combined with the made-up neanthropic chromosome "yyxy".

UNI.T - No More

UNI.T is a 9 member kpop girl group formed by The Unit Culture Industry Company through the KBS survival show The Unit. The group consists of nine members: Yang Ji-won, Woohee, Yoonjo, ZN, NC.A, Euijin, Yebin, Lee Hyun-joo and Lee Su-ji. Their debut mini album, Line, was released on May 18, 2018

Favorite - Where are you from

Favorite  is a kpop girl group formed by Astory Entertainment in 2017. They debuted on July 5, 2017, with My Favorite.They made their first comeback on May 9, 2018, with 'Love Loves To Love Love'.

Kpop Girl Groups Update April 2018

        It's time to update the blog again. Since I was on vacation this month, so the blog is a bit late than usual. But for April 2018, the girl group comeback is really interesting and much better than March 2018. Twice, GFriend, APink comeback around the same time, so there's a lot of competition as well.

Twice - What is Love

   

Twice released their fifth EP with a same lead name single title track, What Is Love? on April 9.  So how popular is exactly this song?  TWICE's MV for "What is Love?" reached 20 million views at around 5:30 AM KST on April 11, about 35 hours since its release! This breaks the previous record held by Black Pink's "As If It's Your Last", which held the record at about 47 hours. 

                           

At live performance, TWICE achieved the highest score on SBS' 'Inkigayo' with "What is Love?"! On the April 22 episode, TWICE, WINNER, and Nilo were nominated for the first place. Ultimately, the JYP Entertainment girl group took the trophy home with a dominating score of 10,527. 10,527 is the highest score set on 'Inkigayo's current system. Not only this, the top 3 scores on 'Inkigayo's current system have all been set by TWICE.  "Signal" in second place with a score of 10,421 and "Heart Shaker" in third place with 10,236. 

Again, Congratulations, TWICE, they did what other girl groups couldn't achieve.

Apink - Miracle

APink has just dropped their 7th anniversary single, "Miracle," as a gift for their fans. Eunji co-composed the track, and Chorong penned some of the lyrics. 
"Miracle" is dedicated to A Pink's loyal fans, and the sweet MV features footage of the girl group spending time with Pandas at a concert. The release also commemorates APink's 7th anniversary of their debut.

 

GFriend - Time for the moon night

 On April 30, 2018, GFriend released their sixth mini album titled Time for the Moon Night. The title song is also called "Time for the Moon Night"
Time for the Moon Night is more sentimental and dreamlike compared to GFriend's previous albums. According to member Umji, the group wanted to "set a new direction toward producing thought-provoking and sentimental music". The album's single of the same name has a retro sound reminiscent of Japanese anime soundtracks.
on the charts, GFriend's title track "Time for the Moon Light" debuts at No. 17 on Billboard's World Digital Song Sales chart. The group has three hits on the chart in "Navillera" (which peaked at No. 12 in 2016), "Fingertip" (No. 13 in 2017) and now 2018's "Time for the Moon Night."

EXID - Lady

EXID returned with a single album Ladyon April 2, 2018, only promoting as four, however, due to Solji still recovering from surgery.The lead track for the album is entitled "내일해 (Lady)". On April 10, 2018, EXID won first place on The Show with "Lady". The whole song reminds me of the 90s hip hop style.

Lovelyz - that day

On April 10, Woollim Entertainment announced that Lovelyz would release their fourth mini album titled Heal on April 23. The album consists of six tracks, including the lead single "That Day" composed by Sweetune.  Lovelyz earned their first music show win for "That Day" on SBS MTV's The Show on May 1

Gavy NJ -  People said break it up

“People Said Break It Up (헤어지래요)” is a title track recorded byGavy NJ . It was released on April 01, 2018 by Good fellas Entertainment.

Kpop Girl Groups Update March 2018

     It's time to update the blog again. Compare to Feb, there are only 2 girl groups comeback last month,  Mamamoo and April.

Mamamoo - Stary Night

Mamamoo released their sixth mini album, Yellow Flower on March 7, 2018.
 It was released by Rainbow Bridge World on March 7, 2018 and distributed by LOEN Entertainment. It contains seven songs, including the single "Starry Night". After the release of the album, it tops the ranking at Melon、Bugs、Genie、Soribada and Olleh Music. They also won the 1st place at M Count Down and SBS ikigyago.
It's also the 1st time Mamamoo tried some new music style as well, and they still try to stay at 1st tier kpop girl group now.

April - Blue Bird

On February 26, 2018 DSP Media confirms April's comeback with the group's 5th mini album "The Blue". APRIL is slated to make their comeback on March 12 at 6 p.m. KST. They are probably the most active girl group from DSP Media now.

Kpop Girl Groups Update Feb 2018

          Ok, I will write the second blog for 2018 today.
          Last month, there are  totally 5 girl groups comeback or debut, which is the same as Jan 2018.

CLC - Black Dress

   

"To the Sky" was released as a digital pre-release track on February 1, 2018. On February 9, a choreography practice video was released for the song.

"Black Dress" was released as the title track in conjunction with the EP on February 22, alongside its music video. The song expresses the woman's mind to seduce the other person with a fashion item called black dress. It is a song with a heavy beat and addictive sound. The music video is directed by Kim Ji-hoon.On February 20, the first music video teaser was released through the group's official YouTube channel and their distributor channel, 1theK

The dance version of this song is quite intense, just learnt the first half minute, it's hard enough enough.  but CLC does have some trouble to get into first tier girl group because they don't really have a key member or leader type person.

Gugudan - The boots

On January 17, the agency revealed that the new release would be the group second single album titled Act. 4 Cait Sith featuring title track "The Boots"

For their latest comeback, the girl group have switched things up from their usual cutesy style, pleasantly surprising fans with a chic, modern concept. The song is about having confidence and being honest about yourself no matter what you face.

Cosmic Girls - Dreams come true

On February 27, 2018, Cosmic Girls released their fourth extended play Dream Your Dream.It contains a total of six songs, including a Chinese version of lead song "Dreams Come True"
On February 4, 2018, a comeback schedule was released online, revealing that the group would be releasing their fourth EP, Dream Your Dream, on February 27.

Weki Meki - La La La

On February 21, 2018 Weki Meki released their second extended play titled Lucky. The album features a total of six songs including lead single "La La La" and "Butterfly", the latter being a remake of an original soundtrack from the 2009 sports film Take Off which the group released in support of the 2018 Winter Olympics.

CocoSori - Mi Amor

Mi Amor is the first mini-album by CoCoSoRi. It was released on February 12, 2018 with "Mi Amor" serving as the album's title track.The album contains two new tracks as well as CoCo's debut single "Wishy Washy"

          Ok, I will write the first blog for 2018 today.
          Last month, there are  totally 5 girl groups comeback or debut, which is a bit better than the end of last year.

Red Velvet - bad boys

          

         The group released their first repackaged album, The Perfect Red Velvet, on January 29, 2018. This included three new tracks in addition to all the songs from Perfect Velvet, with the single "Bad Boy" promoted as its title track.

            The album topped the Gaon Album Chart upon its release while "Bad Boy" debuted at #1 on Gaon's Download Chart and at #2 on the Gaon Digital Chart. The Perfect Red Velvet also charted at #3 on Billboard's World Albums chart while "Bad Boy" debuted at #2 on its World Digital Songs chart. Red Velvet also entered the Top 10 of Billboard's Social 50 chart for the first time, charting at number nine. The album also marked the first time the group has appeared on the Canadian Hot 100 and charted at number 87, becoming only the seventh K-pop artist and the third female act to appear on the chart. Red Velvet promoted the song on various South Korean music shows, earning their first music show win for "Bad Boy" on February 8 on Show Champion.

           This song also has very good feedback from audience and kpop fans I know, almost all of them like this song, gave a better rating, and also the dance as well, even I tried to learn part of their dance.

Momoland - bboom bboom

              Speaking of Momoland, many people really like them, also many people hate them. But overall, their popularity increases a lot after  the "bboom bboom" song, they even won M!CountDown as an rookie relatively unknown group.

            Momoland has dropped their 3rd mini-album, optimistically titled 'Great!' They've teamed up with Shinsadong Tiger for their title track "BBoom BBoom" so that's a good start. However,In January 2018, Serebro accused Momoland of plagiarizing their song "Mi Mi Mi" with "Bboom Bboom". The composer of "Bboom Bboom", Shinsadong Tiger, denied the allegations by pointing out that "the bass line  commonly heard in retro house or swing electronic genres, as well as the 4-stanza chord

Oh my girl -secret garden

         

             

On December 23, 2017, WM Entertainment announced Oh My Girl's comeback on January 9, with their fifth EP Secret Garden. They won their first music show trophy on The Show on January 23rd, 2018 and the second trophy on Show Champion on January 24th, 2018, with "Secret Garden"

Davichi - Days without you

       
             Davichi is probably the oldest girl group exist in my blog now.On January 16, 2018. B2M Entertainment announced that Davichi will be release their third studio album to celebrate their 10-year anniversary since their debut at 2008. Davichi released their third studio album &10 on January 25 with the lead single "Days Without You"

Fromis 9 - To Heart

            I never mentioned about this group before. Fromis 9 is a 9 member kpop girl group formed by CJ E&M through the 2017 reality show Idol School on Mnet. The group officially debuted on January 24, 2018 with the release of their first extended play (EP) titled To. Heart.The EP, along with its lead single titled "To Heart", was released on January 24

July

               I skipped the July and talks about something else, so no information this month.

August

             The biggest news from August 2017 was SNSD 10 years anniversary and GFriend Love Whisper comeback.

 

And also many Gfriend-ish girl groups debut or comeback with the same innocent, cute concept this month, such as Momoland, Pristin, Weki Meki, S.I.S, AppleB

             In early July 2017, Girls' Generation was announced to be releasing their sixth studio album in August 2017 to commemorate the group's tenth debut anniversary. The album, titled Holiday Night, was released on August 7, 2017. To promote the album, the group held a concert titled "Holiday to Remember" on August 5, 2017 at Olympic Hall.

       It's been two years since their last full album 'Lionheart,' and they're back again to celebrate their 10th anniversary. Their sixth album is stuffed full with 10 new songs, and includes the two title tracks "All Night" and "Holiday."Their two title tracks are from Girls' Generation's new 6th full-length album 'Holiday Night'. "All Night" is an uptempo dance song by kenzie about falling in love during a summer party. Seohyun also participated in writing the lyrics for "Holiday", which is about the girl group's feelings about their 10th anniversary holiday.

September

          If GFriend comeback at the wrong time along with SNSD last month, the continue success made GFriend a top tier girl group nowadays. Overall, September has very few kpop girl comeback, like April, Elris and Loona.

          After the Love Whisper at August, they released the repackage album Rainbow with the title track "Summer Rain" in September. The title track is "SUMMER RAIN," a refreshing balladic tune that makes a really good fall track with  the angelic vocals, along with the occasional rain effects.

               So girl group of the September is GFriend

October

       Same as September, not many girl groups comeback at October 2017. DIA, Loona, Playback all have some interesting comeback.

       Twice released their first full-length Korean album, Twicetagram, on October 30 with its lead single titled "Likey". The music video for the song was filmed in Vancouver, Canada in early September. The song is upbeat and in typical TWICE fashion, extremely catchy. The visuals, dance, and song are on point and the song is shaping up to be yet another mega-hit. The MV has a lot of quirky little gems in it, like Dahyun's DAB, which makes for a very entertaining watch.

         It's no surprise, but TWICE have topped music charts with "Likey".The song reigns on top of domestic music charts like Genie, Naver, Olleh, Bugs, Soribada, and Monkey3. They've also topped iTunes' album charts in 11 countries including Japan, Hong Kong, and Singapore, and the iTunes' song charts in 5 countries including Hong Kong, Philippines, and Thailand.

              So girl group of the October is Twice

November

        Same as few previous month,  kpop girl groups not doing very well in the second half year. EXID, Gugudan, Lovelyz made comeback. EXID DDD song made some popularity.

                                        

But overall,  Red Velvet revisited their "velvet" image by releasing their second full-length album Perfect Velvet on November 17 with the lead single "Peek-A-Boo". Critics opined that the group finally managed to make that side of their concept and music appeal more to the public and unlike their first "velvet" release, the album and single were both commercially successful. It peaked atop Billboard's World Album Chart which once again set the record for most number-ones on the chart by a K-pop girl group but also tied with most number-ones among all K-pop acts. "Peek-A-Boo" peaked at #2 on Billboard's World Digital Songs chart, tying with their 2016 single "Russian Roulette".In South Korea, the album charted at #2 on the Gaon Album Chart

December

         December is the worst month ever in my blog as kpop girl group comeback, since Twice is the only girl group who made comeback, even though they were quite successful, no other girl groups comeback.

On December 11, TWICE unveiled a cheery repackage album 'Merry & Happy' with the title track "Heart Shaker". Soon after the release, the hot girl group hit #1 on all major domestic music charts including Melon, Genie, Bugs, Mnet, Naver, and Soribada; ultimately, recording an all-kill on the real-time charts. 

TWICE has broken their own record again. The girls had previously held the record for being the fastest girl group to reach 10 million views with "Likey". "Likey" had gotten to 10 million in a little over 22 hours, and they've now beat it with "Heart Shaker" with 21 hours and 52 minute

                So girl group of the December is Twice

so overall, let's count the popularity of the girl groups from last year from each month.

From this, we can obviously tell Twice was the most popular kpop girl group from last year,  Gfriend was second. BlackPink, Red Velvet, APink, SNSD or even S.E.S. had one spot before.

Kpop Girl Groups 2017 Review (First Half).

             So it's time to write year review again. Same as last year, basically I will give a quick review about what happened each month last year , pick one girl group from each of my blog last year, the girl group of the month.(one group per month). And we will see the result....
             And I will write the first half of the year 2017  first.

January

             At Jan 2017, there are quite a few big event happened.

           1  Comeback of first generation girl group S.E.S.
           2  Disband of YG girl group 2NE1. (2NE1 without Minzy)

           3  Disband of Produce 101 girl group I.O.I

   Since late 2016, there are various rumor about first generation kpop girl group S.E.S. will make comeback in early 2017. And eventually , they chose Jan 1st 2017 as their comeback day.S.E.S. is considered one of the most popular kpop girl group from late 90s to early 2000s.

                                   So girl group of the Jan is S.E.S.

February

           More and More girl groups comeback and debut this month, mostly cute concept girl groups such as Twice, Red Velvet, Gugudan, Lovelyz. 

           The most well known one is the knock knock comeback from Twice. After its release, it was reported that the new album sold more than 310,000 copies in pre-orders within a week. Just after few hours, the song achieved an all-kill by placing #1 on 8 real-time charts including Melon, Mnet, Bugs, Naver, Olleh, Genie, Monkey3, and Soribada.

March

       After Feb, there is a cool down for kpop girl groups comeback, not many girl groups comeback at March, But 3 major girl groups choose comeback at the same time,GFriend, Girl's Day and Red Velvet.

       Among them, the most successful one is GFriend. After release of "Fingertip",they've already reached over 2 million views with almost 150,000 likes as well in just 14 hours. And G-Friend got their 1st #1 with their comeback title, which made them the most successful girl group comeback at March 2017.

April

      After March, there are not major kpop girl group comebacks, but quite a few relatively unknown girl groups comeback at April. Among the well known ones, APink, EXID, Oh My Girl and the new Dream Catcher got some attention.

        At April 18th 2017 , it was revealed that Apink would be giving Pink Pandas a special gift in honor of their sixth debut anniversary. Over the past six years, the group has received a great deal of love for their consistently innocent, youthful image and undeniable talent.

            So girl group of the April is APink

May

     There are two major event for kpop girl groups this month. The release of Twice Signal and Disbandment of Sistar.  Overall, there are only 6 girl groups comeback last month, which is far less than previous month, most girl groups enter inactive period.

Starship Entertainment confirmed that the project will be the last comeback for Sistar and they will officially disband after their 7-year promotions as a group.

Once are receiving the message loud and clear as TWICE's newest title track, "Signal" has achieved an all-kill on all 6 major music charts shortly after its debut! Their title song "Signal" managed to snag the #1 spot on all 6 real-time music charts, making for a clean all-kill despite strong contenders like Psy and Unnies. 

            So girl group of the May is Twice

June

              June 2017 is a big month for kpop girl group comeback, many news surrounding at this time.3 mojor event happened this month is huge success of BlackPink, APink comeback death threats, and disband of As One

              APink Bomb thread top the kpop news this month.

the longest running kpop girl duo As One announced disband at 2017(finished their 18 years of career)

 Within 17 hours after release, the music video for "As If It's Your Last" gained more than 11 million views on YouTube, becoming the fastest music video to exceed 10 million views by a K-pop group, which broke the record previously held by BTS's "Not Today" of 10 million views within 21 hours. 

         Furthermore, the music video became the second most viewed online video in the first 24 hours by a Korean act, with more than 13.3 million views within 24 hours after release, second only to Psy's "Gentleman".

                 So girl group of the June is BlackPink
